Shield Ministries is committed to helping men prepare men for meaningful work through honest relationships, mentoring, work-force development training and an ongoing community of support.
Once participants arrive and begin to work many are often tempted to shift their focus on their job attempting to making their jobs priority over the program. Pastor Truluck shares quite frequently this truth with our men, "You had a job before you got into trouble, putting work and work schedules as your number priority is not going to bring you healing."
Workforce Development is more than helping men find jobs, it is teaching the men how to operate and fulfill the biblical principle in Colossians 3:23 "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Do your work willingly, as though you were serving the Lord himself, and not just your earthly master."
When we work for the Lord, we are working by design of our Lord, our Creator. Ephesians chapter 2 explains the richness of God's mercy, the intensity of God's love for us, and His desire to satisfy that love, planned salvation through grace first and foremost. The Scripture then goes on to further clarify that our salvation is not of works, meaning we cannot earn it, it is a gift. Our Creator understands us better than we understand ourselves and how we easily we can become distracted. Therefore, Ephesians chapter 2 explains that we are to work by design.
First and foremost, God makes the priorities clear, "For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] . . ." Clearly put, God desires to bring hope healing and restoration (recreated) because we are God's own handiwork before we work. Basically the storyline is this:
God created us and to satisfy His intense love for us, by His own work (He sacrificed Himself), not our work nor our sacrifice(s), so that we can be recreated by His original design to become who we were created to be; to walk in the prepared paths; and to do the good works that God designed us to do.
Our workforce development initiative helps men receive healing, to be re-created in Christ, by thinking, choosing, and building correctly (by God's original design) to be reinstated as God's own handiwork. We are like works of fine art that have been damaged and require restoration so that we can radiate His Glory.
In the words of Christ Jesus, "And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment." Matthew 22:36-38 This commandant sums is one of the two that sums all of God's law, His instruction, His design for our success in all we do. (Success as defined by God and not us.) To love the Lord, Our God with all of our heart requires healing. Our heart has been damaged by sin, ours and others.
Loving God with all of our soul (which is our eternal spirit); meaning living our lives in the here and now as eternal beings living an eternal life-style: "And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent." John 17:3
Loving God with all of our mind; meaning learning how to think how God originally designed us to think. "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control." 2 Timothy 1:7
Lastly, it is important to also highlight the 2nd greatest command, "And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself." Matthew 22:38 Jesus demonstrated this principle through His humble obedience as we are also called to demonstrate:
"Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:] Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being."
Essentially, God fulfills us through our allowing Him to satisfy His intense love for us through His grace, redemption, and healing work so that we can walk in the way that He designed us to walk doing the work that He has prepared for us to do and in the way that allows our heavenly Father to radiate His glory in and through us.
